NYC first state to raise smoking age to 21!
Yes, this is true, New York is the first state to raise the smoking age to 21. What do you think!? I personally think that it's a good idea because if you can't buy alcohol until you're 21 than you shouldn't be able to buy cigarettes until you're 21. There are too many teens across the United States that are dying because of bad habits. One bad habit is smoking. Deaths and these bad habits can be stop just by a little enforcement by the law. I think this was perfect for New York to do and hopefully many states will follow them.

I think this is a good idea. Too many kids who turn 18 start to smoke which is a drug. So if people have to be 21 to legally drink then people should be 21 to smoke because they are both drugs. I think every state should change the law from 18 to 21. This law needs to be enforced so that people cant smoke until they are 21.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is a good law, but I feel that it wouldn't make THAT big of a difference. I work at a Sheetz back home, and we are the third highest selling store for tobacco sales. That's over 400 stores and we are in the top three, and the town where we are located is extremely tiny! My point is that I see people of all ages, genders, races, economic statues, etc. It is so bad that I have parents buying cigarettes for their children. I have had to refuse sales because the parent turns to their child and asks what they want, and I ask to see the child's ID, and the parent proceeds to say, "oh it's ok I allow him." I refused the sale, and they proceeded to tell me that they will just go up the road to the next gas station. It's a shame, but I just feel that changing the law will only slightly alter how much people smoke in the US.
ReplyDeleteI also think this is a good idea. Every state needs to join this bandwagon. Personally I hate cigarettes with a passion. Every time I see someone I know personally, I ask them "Why?" and every answer they give me I feel as though its not a reason to shorten your life for. Also there are many other alternatives than smoking cigarettes.
